Main Point of the Parent Meeting

The National Council of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) voted to increase their registration fees for ALL Scouts starting this Charter Renewal period. The increase brings the cost of the BSA registration fee from $33.00 to $60.00 (a $27.00 increase). While this is an untimely announcement, $60 is still an incredible value for a YEAR ROUND program. Keeping in mind that the BSA registration fee (and insurance) go directly to the National Council, Pack 193 nor the Heart of New England Council see that money. The BSA registration fee is part of the yearly registration fee that Pack 193 charges each Scout (includes BSA Registration, BSA Insurance, Handbook, Scout's Life Magazine and a Pinewood Derby Kit).

Take Away from the Parent Meeting

While the Scouts (and parents) of Pack 193 did a good job in the Trail's End Popcorn Fundraiser, the Pack Committee has already budgeted and allocated the commission from that sale for other purposes (supplies, activities, trips, etc.). Unfortunately Pack 193 cannot afford to pay all of the Scouts' $27 increase which comes out to approximately $2,000. With that being said, parents and guardians will have to pay for the increase from BSA per Scout.

Options for Parents/Guardians

Pack 193 strives to make Cub Scouting as affordable as possible and maintain the value the program offers, we have decided to move our Spring Scout Account Fundraiser to begin now. Every Spring Pack 193 offers several fundraisers that benefit the Scouts directly into a Scout Account. Pack 193 does not see a dime of the commission from the sales, it goes directly to each individual Scout to use for Summer Camp, activities, registration fees for the following year and anything Scout related. Pack 193 holds the money in our checking account and our Treasurer, Cubmaster and Committee Chair keep track on a shareable Google Sheet. We have three options for you on the $27 increase:

Entertainment Digital Membership Cards - Much like the Bulldog Cards or Blue Devil Cards, these digital cards sell for $20 and the Scout gets $10 +/- in commission. The discounts are all national and are at well known places. You can see a listing of where and who you can use the card by going to https://shop.entertainmen...oupon-book. All you have to do is sell THREE cards and the fee increase is paid for. After the three cards you can keep selling and bank the commission into you Scout's Scout Account to use in the future. Attached you will find the order form and it will also be available on our website at cubscoutpack193.comOrders and money will be due at our Holiday Party on December 19.

Country Meat Sticks - We usually use these as one of our Summer Camp fundraisers. The Country Meat Sticks are a delicious and easy way to earn money for your Scout. They sell for $1.00 each and your Scout gets 50% commission. They come in a wide variety of flavors. If you sell 60 Country Meat Sticks your Scout will have the increase paid for. After the 60 are sold, keep selling to put money into your Scout's Scout Account. Once the $27 is paid, this can be an ongoing fundraiser for you. You can sign out bags of 25 and we will send a Google Form in a separate email if you are interested in using the Country Meat Sticks as an option. YOU CAN DO BOTH ENTERTAINMENT CARDS AND COUNTRY MEAT STICKS!

Pay the Increase Out of Pocket - We know parents get asked to participate in fundraising all the time from school, youth activities and sports and you may not want to take advantage of the above options, no problem! You can pay for the increase out of pocket if you wish or you can pay the increase AND do the fundraisers, we had a few parents choose to do that tonight.

Mystic Aquarium Overnight

This year our spring over night trip will be at the Mystic Aquarium April 4-5, 2020. 

We have to reserve our spots early as this is highly sought after date.  That means we need a head count by Oct 19th.   Please RSVP by Oct 19th!

The over night cost $70 per person, however this price may go down for your scout pending how we do with popcorn. No one under the age of 5 is allowed on this trip, this is the Aquarium's rule not ours. Every Scout must be accompanied by an adult.

The $70 includes: Dinner (pizza, salad, fruit, and drinks), snack before bed, breakfast in AM, private Seal Feeding demonstration, and private IMAX show before aquarium opens. It also includes an all day pass for Sunday April 5th.

The pack will need 50% deposit for this trip by January 2nd, 2020 and the rest paid by March 5th, 2020. This gives everyone plenty of time to plan ahead. Payment plans can put into place if you would like to make payments leading up to the deposit dates.
